Environmental Local Authorities InterBalkan Network - ELAIN


PESYDAP successfully organized the first local event, on 24th February, at the hall of Korydallos Municipals Council, in the frame of ELAIN project (Environmental Local Authorities Interbalkan Network).

The event was opened by the vice president of PESYDAP, Mr. Demosthenes Stamatatos, who presented the objectives of the local event, and also mentioned the significant success of PESYDAP, as the project submitted to the European Union was rated as the 7th best to fund for current programming period.

On February 20th 2014, in Rijeka was held the first local event of ELAIN project, with representatives of the City Department of Development, Urban Planning, Ecology and Land Administration and the representatives of utility companies, institutions, NGO 's, associations and organisations dealing with environmental protection (utility companies “Vodovod i kanalizacija”, “Čistoća”, “Autotrolej” and “Energo”, the Teaching Institute of Public Health of the Primorje - Gorski Kotar County, Ekoplus, Eko Adria, Cezar, Žmergo, City Department of Property Management).

Project ELAIN was presented and joint co-operation concerning activities between stakeholders was agreed. During the meeting the environmental problem was identified on which the City of Rijeka and its partners will focus their attention – waste management and education of citizens about the importance of proper waste disposal, in other words, raising awareness among citizens about importance of separate waste collection in households.

The City of Niš Administration of Economy, Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection organized a fruitful first local meeting on February 20, 2014 in the City of Niš Assembly Hall as a first step in implementation of the project titled ELAIN (Environmental Local Authorities Interbalkan Network).

The opening speech was given by the Deputy Head of the Administration of Economy, Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection, Mr. Ilija Jocović, B.A. in Law, who presented the Project and objectives of the Local event. In his speech, he explained that the Project is a result of the signing of the ”Memorandum of Understanding on Interbalkan Cooperation for the Environment” between the City of Niš and the Environmental Association of Municipalities of Athens and Piraeus (PE.SY.D.A.P.) and that one of the objectives of this Memorandum is a creation of the Balkan Network and Initiative for the enhancement and active participation of the citizens in environmental protection, planning and defining of priority issues in environmental protection, establishment of the joint framework of activities by using the technologically advanced and innovative applications to solve these issues. He also mentioned that this Project has been accepted by the European Commission within the Programme „Europe for Citizens“ and that it is very important for the City of Niš as it aims to find the best solutions for the environmental problems. The Project will last from February this year till April 2015.

The meeting between the representatives of the City of Novi Sad, non-governmental organizations and volunteers involved in the environmental protection, as the first step in the project ELAIN - Environmental Local Authorities Interbalkan Network, was held in the City Assembly of Novi Sad today.

The project is a result of signing of the “Memorandum of Understanding on Interbalkan Cooperation in the Field of Environmental Protection“ between the City of Novi Sad and the Association of Environmental Protection of the City of Athens and Piraeus. One of the goals of the Memorandum is the planning and implementation of programs of a common framework of action by using more technologically advanced and innovative applications for solving problems in the field of environmental protection.

Held on February 17th 2014, in administrative center of East Sarajevo, meeting began at 13 o’clock.
